Do you need a certain amount of coolant and are you looking for a reliable manufacturer? SEL Chemie B.V. can produce and supply coolant on request in addition to a wide range of chemical products. Our SEL® coolant protects open and closed cooling systems against frost down to a minimum temperature of -26°C. This coolant is carefully formulated to prevent limescale, rust and corrosion.

Coolant applications

Cooling liquids, also known as coolants or cooling water, are used in various applications to dissipate heat and thus regulate the temperature. Here are some of the most common applications of coolants:

  • Engine cooling in motor vehicles: In combustion engines, coolant is used to protect the engine from overheating by transporting heat from the engine block to the radiator.
  • Industrial applications: In many industrial processes, especially in the metalworking and chemical industries, coolants are used to cool machinery and equipment.
  • Air conditioning and cooling systems: Coolants are used in air conditioning and cooling systems to regulate the temperature in buildings, vehicles or other enclosed spaces.
  • Electronics: Cooling liquid is used in electronic devices such as computers and high-performance electronics to lower the temperature of processors, transformers and other components.
  • Solar collectors: In solar thermal systems that use solar energy to generate heat, a cooling liquid is often used to dissipate the heat generated.
  • Aviation: Coolants are used in aircraft engines and other aeronautical applications to regulate the extreme temperatures during flight.
  • Cooling of electric drives in electric vehicles: Cooling plays an important role in electric vehicles in order to optimise the performance and efficiency of the drivetrain.
  • Cooling of industrial and household appliances: Cooling fluids are used in refrigerators, freezers and other household appliances to reduce the internal temperature.


It is important to note that different types of coolant can be used depending on the application. These can be water-based or contain special coolants with additives for specific requirements. In either case, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that the correct coolant is used for the application. Important note: SEL® coolant is not available from stock as standard, but is definitely available on request!
